Yesterday we looked at Jacob’s Dream in Genesis 28. After the dream Jacob declared:
“Surely the LORD is in this place” (v16)
He set up a pillar and called the place “Bethel” (v19) meaning the house of God. Later in his life, Jacob returns the Bethel and again the LORD appears to Him (Genesis 35:6-9). The LORD is everywhere and can speak to you anywhere so in a sense everywhere you go is Bethel!
I am wondering though…Do you have a place to dream? Do you have a place where you perhaps escape to when you need time alone with the LORD?
I have one in particular in Scotland where I went for a few days alone with God during a time of uncertainty when I faced a decision. Three days alone in a tent with only my bible, notebook, music…and my dog! I climbed a mountain one morning and the LORD revealed Himself to me in the splendor of His creation. I fell to my knees and cried out aloud: “I SURRENDER TO YOUR WILL LORD” ~ it was my own Bruce Almighty moment!
I can relate to Jacob’s response in Genesis 28:20-21
“If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat and clothing to wear, so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God”
Although I can’t go back to my “Bethel” in Scotland very easily ~ I can go there in my mind and heart. I carry that place with me wherever I go. Once we are settled I will find a new “Bethel” ~ that place to go where I can find peace and spend time listening to the LORD alone. That place I can dream with the LORD. For now “Bethel” is the corner seat of my sofa!
Where is your Bethel? Disclaimer: Welcome to my “31 Days to Dream” and thank you for joining me on this journey. I don’t hold the road map for October–God does! He is starting the journey by taking me down a path of memories, some of which I had long forgotten. He is showing me how He has made my childhood dreams come true in ways that I could never have imagined. He is giving me FAITH and HOPE for the road ahead. I am excited to see where He leads my dreaming over this month of #Write31Days 🙂 You can find my other 31 Days to Dream posts here!

That wonderful Bible camp I worked at for almost seven summers is my “Bethel.”

I love to go back to the Bible camp of my youth 🙂 I became a Christian there and then served as a volunteer – lots of Jesus time memories!!

I don’t have a place to dream, but this makes me crave one. I’ve carved out a special place for work, and often pray there as well, since most of my labor is Christian writing/speaking/teaching. But I think a place (or habit? like walking?) might be wise to secure. Thanks for this. Maybe my spot can be in Scotland, too? (Was three weeks shy of being born in Thurso!)

Walking is one of my places too Kirsten, especially at this time of year with all the incredible colors on display 🙂
That’s pretty cool you were almost born in Scotland!!!
