John 1717

SANCTIFICATION: Christ’s sacrificial death atones for our sins and His blood, through the indwelling Holy Spirit, covers our sins making us holy. Sanctification is a life-changing process, bringing about a commitment and desire for holy living – we are set-apart for holy use. It means that we can be accepted into God’s presence (taken from Holman Bible Dictionary). Through the process of sanctification we are separated from profanity, we are dedicated to the Lord, we are purified, cleansed, made free from the guilt of sin, and our souls are renewed (taken from Strong’s Concordance)

“You shall sanctify him, for he offers the bread of your God. He shall be holy to you, for I, the LORD, who sanctify you, am holy” Lev. 21:8

“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word” Eph. 5:25-26

“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” 1 Thes. 5:23

“So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood” Heb. 13:12

“But know that the LORD has set apart the godly for himself; the LORD hears when I call to him” Ps. 4:3

“But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace” Gal. 1:15

“Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work” 2 Tim. 2:21

TRUTH: The truth is reliable, faithful, just, sincere, and can be trusted; correct knowledge, or doctrine. Truth is something to be obeyed; it is revealed in Christ. Jesus revealed the true nature of His Father: God. To be sanctified in the truth…it is not just head knowledge; truth is life changing…we walk in the truth (taken from Holman’s Bible Dictionary). The truth is revealed through the Holy Spirit…it is open to human reason without His supernatural intervention (taken from Strong’s Concordance).

“Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long” Ps. 25:5

“Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name” Ps. 86:11

“For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” John 1:17

“So Jesus said to the Jews who had believe him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” John 8:31-32

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” John 14:6

“Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him” 1 John 2:4

WORD: “Utterance or saying that may refer to a single work, the entire law, the gospel message, or even Christ” (Holman Bible Dictionary, http://www.studylight.org/dic/hbd/view.cgi?n=6475). It can be a prophetic word, a legal word, or a creative word. Creation occurred by the word of God, and reveals His majesty. Jesus’ message is a word…Jesus Himself is THE living word (taken from Holman’s Bible Dictionary). The word is the sayings of God, OT prophecy, a declaration. It is doctrine, and teaching.

“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host” Ps. 33:6

“The sum of your word is truth, and everyone of your righteous rules endures forever” Ps. 119:160

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” John 1:1

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth” John 1:14

“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit” Eph. 1:13

“…Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel” Col. 1:5

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth” 2 Tim. 2:15

“The revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show to his servants the things that must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, even to all that he saw” Rev. 1:1-2
